Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the most frequently answered filmmaker/filmmaking questions and answers.
Ultimately, if you want your movie to look like it was shot on film, then you need to shoot it on film. However, there are many editing software products that have features that can give your film shot on video a “film look.” But with that said, no such product can precisely resemble the real thing, film.
The technical answer is yes. That’s because copyright law prevents distribution and public performance of protected works, regardless of whether money is exchanged or not.
This is a technical question and the answer depends on the results you’re looking for.
For example, the higher the resolution that you will be editing, the more robust of editing hardware you will need. And it’s not simply a matter of choosing the fastest computer available. Other factors to consider include processor, memory, motherboard, hard drives, operating system, etc.
There is no definitive answer to this question. The best editing software is the one that gets you your desired outcome. That may be the free editing software that came installed on your computer or may be one that you have to purchase.
With that said, two of the most recognizable editing softwares are Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro. Also, Avid Media Composer and Black Magic Design Davinci Resolve are recognized as top tier editing software as well.
The quick answer is, yes!
The privacy laws of each country may vary, but in most economically developed countries you need to obtain permission from an individual to use their image in a media project if they are identifiable. And if the person is a minor, under the age of 18, you normally need a parent or legal guardian to sign a consent form on their behalf.
If anyone appears in your film and is identifiable and never signer a release form, they may be able to sue you for using their countenance without permission. This may keep you from selling or distributing your film. The person whose face is shown without permission may even demand profit sharing.
It's Art, But It's Also Passion
A word that I often equate with filmmaking is passion. Having a passion for filmmaking is the foundation that keeps me driven in my pursuit to guide and help others develop their film from concept to directing. I look forward to hearing from you so that we can passionately develop your film.
